2013 has been one of the best years of my life so far, if not the best. I've never had this much fun, met this many amazing people or grown this much as a person. It's always fun to look back at your experiences, adventures and everything that has happened during the past year, so I thought I'd sum up the year in a couple of photos. Enjoy!
If this was the best year of my life the month of January has to be the worst month during this year. Not only did I have a rough time to get through on my own, but on top of that I arrived to Paris on the second day of the month, just to find the apartment I had rented completely unlivable. That meant checking into a hotel and finding a new apartment within three days. Mission impossible, right? Yes, it almost was. After three days I finally found a little apartment in the 5th arrondissement that I could stay in for one month while I kept looking for a place to stay in during a longer time.
But on the more positive side of things I got to see Paris completely covered in snow, do an internship at Diane von Furstenberg, take up photography again after being home in Stockholm for almost eight months and meeting new best friends. I'm so happy that I endured those first weeks of hell, because little did I know that this experience would change my life forever.
In February I moved into the apartment that I would end up staying in until the summer. It was my dream apartment with white wooden floors, big Parisian windows overlooking a quiet little street with a big white marble table. Yes, I was in heaven.
It snowed again and I was starting to loose hope about the fact that spring would ever arrive in Paris. Snow is not that big of a deal in a city like Stockholm but I quickly learned that when snow comes to Paris, the whole city stops. Valentine's Day came and I spent it together with my lovely Grace eating delicious food and indulging in yummy ice cream at Berthillon. I should have known then and there that this was a person who would become one of my dearest friends in the end – not that many people would eat ice cream with you when it's freezing outside.
I could finally enjoy Paris in ballet flats and thinner jackets in March – if only for a few days. But I made sure to put those days to good use by stopping by Pierre Hermé for my favourite praliné macaron and enjoy a break in Jardin des Tuileries. But those were not the only macarons I enjoyed in March, that's for sure. During one Sunday one of my dear friends invited a bunch of friends to something called the "macaron smack down" which sounded pretty impossible to resist, right? It was.
I also ate my way around the city together with Diane, fellow food lover and one of the funniest girls to hang out with. She made me discover Frenchie Wine Bar as well as the tasty sandwiches at Verjus. Fashion week in Paris came to an end and I payed a visit to Ten Belles together with Cindy (another amazing girl that I'm not lucky to consider one of my close friends).
In April spring arrived to Paris and I went completely crazy for all the trees and flowers, which suddenly were in full bloom. I spent several hours in both Jardin des Plantes and Jardin du Palais Royal, photographing every single flower I could find and enjoying the lovely weather. I visited my favourite museum in Paris, Musée Rodin for the hundredth time, enjoyed evenings by the Seine in the best company possible, had lunch on a balcony (with one of the pretties views over the city I've ever seen), went to my first concert in Paris and had the best picnic ever thanks to the lovely Lauren who was kind enough to organize it all.
For the first time ever I got the chance to visit Corsica in May. Not only did I get the chance to visit this place that I've been dreaming about forever, I also got to do it with some of the loveliest people I've met so far. Late night conversations, enormous amounts of ice cream and langoustines, days spent rolling around in the sand on the beach and playing around in the sea was the best thing I could ever have wished for. It felt so nice to escape the city for a while to a place where a cup of coffee didn't cost more than 2€ and where I got the chance to take a dip in the sea again!
I love the spring and summer months in Paris and June has to be one of the best. I got to try this French toast (and after that I was forever hooked) and enjoyed the most magical day at the Plaza. This evening with late night ice cream and chit chat was one that I'll never forget, a short visit from my sister was also one of the highlights during this month as well as a trip to Versailles (and all of these moments).
I also have to say that meeting Nicole for the first time has to be one of the most exciting things during this month. Why? I guess you could say that I really discovered my love for photography when shooting her (remember our first shoots together? I, II, III, IV). I found something I absolutely loved doing and would like to continue doing in the future. I'm forever grateful that this girl dared to take a shot at me when I had had done absolutely nothing like this before!
I spent most of the days during July on the beach in Terracina or strolling the streets of Rome. Like I've said before: no summer is complete for me without a visit to these two places. Eating watermelon, several bombas, ice cream, pizza and pasta al salmone during two weeks is my idea of a heaven. The only downside to these kind of vacations is that they have to come to an end at some point...
After spending every minute on the beach doing absolutely nothing I went to Rome by myself and hit the jackbot when I entered my apartment that I had rented on my own. A perfect little place with a private terrace that looked more like something taken out of a movie. After riding around on the back of Annie's Vespa it felt like I was in "Roman Holiday" for real. Rome is seriously a city I could se myself spending some more time in.
After spending most of July in Italy I spent August in my hometown Stockholm. The best thing about coming home is always getting to see my little sweetheart again. I hate being away from our family pug when I'm in Paris so I try to cuddle with him as much as possible whenever I'm home. We had a pretty good summer this year (by Swedish standards that it), which meant that I could spend several days laying in the grass reading good books and just relaxing. I made sure to bake a few extra treats since my Parisian apartment didn't have an oven. I also spent the month planning the most exciting adventure I've experienced this year for the month of September...
Yes, September was certainly the most exhausting, exciting and fascinating month of the year for me. On the 6th I got on a plane to New York and met up with Nicole for fashion week. After that we flew off to London, Milan and last but not least, Paris. It's hard to pick highlights from this month since there were so many. Getting to see shows like Alberta Ferretti, Tibi and Vera Wang in real life might take the price though! Or perhaps getting to shoot soo much amazing fashion? Or meeting so many new friends and incredible people. Yes, it's really hard to choose just a few.
A a few of my favourite shoots from this month though has to be when we shot in Central Park during a very early morning, when we ended up in the beautiful West Village, the white and pink roses in London, shooting this white lace dream on our balcony in Milan and getting to photograph in front of the Tour Eiffel, experience magical sunsets and creating short stories together in Paris.
Fall arrived in Paris during the month of October and I got to experience the amazing autumn colours in this city. I loved seeing Paris covered in yellow, orange and red tones and could never keep my camera in my bag for too long. I also visited one of my new favourite museums and got to smell some pretty flowers on my way there. I was incredibly nervous when Tiany asked me to shoot her, all dressed in Louis Vuitton, while she was in Paris during a few days but I couldn't imagine anything more exciting at the same time. I'm happy I did because I love the photos we took together and getting the chance to work with such a sweet person was really fantastic!
In November we celebrated my mom's birthday by flying to Rome and spending a few days in one of our favourite cities. I loved coming back to this place and really enjoyed seeing it during the fall. I didn't think anything could top experiencing Rome during summer but autumn in this city is pretty darn amazing as well!
I turned a year older and it actually felt like it was okay since I had accomplished many things that I was very happy about, but no one likes getting older, right? I ignored those feelings by drinking lots of hot chocolate from Angelina, eating French toast for breakfast with dear friends and strolling around the beautiful Jardin des Tuileries on beautiful autumn days like this.
In the end of November/beginning of December my dad and sister visited Paris and we got to enjoy the best days together. This month I was also invited to the Gucci Paris Masters and had a really exciting day that I documented in photos right here, I paid a visit to the Christmas display windows at Printemps and got to be roommates with this gorgeous girl before heading home. Let's just say that our time together resulted in more sweets than I could possibly count. I discovered so many new favourite treats that I can't wait to tell you about!
I ended this month in Sweden, together with family, friends and new friends too. For the first time in a long time, it doesn't feel sad and boring being back in my hometown. It's actually been really cosy and now I kind of have a hard time saying good bye before leaving for Paris again on Thursday.
